It’s New Years Eve, 2007, roughly 3 hours until the new year dawns. What will 2008 bring? Simple. It will bring what you create. I don’t think it can be reinforced enough that you create your own life through how you act on and react to inputs. “You create your life” does not mean that one can simply ‘wish-up’ a new house, piles of bullion, or a fit body, though it doesn’t rule that out. What it does mean is if you would like to have some say in how your life is going to be you have to get off your ass and do something. ACT!
With each passing year I see more and more of society working desperately hard to avoid having to act on anything, to avoid responsibility, to avoid decisionsalways more than ready to blame something, someone, some event external to their control for the lacks in their lives.
Rather sad, but entirely curable. No fancy equipment, no cost, no need for support groups, lecture series, self-help books, gurus, guides, tea leaves, navel pondering or whatever the trend is. Just the simple decision to take charge of your own life and take responsibility for all of it, the good and the bad. All it takes is sticking to this one principle: I create my life.
One rather funny side effect of this is often the people around you won’t know quite how to handle this change. All of a sudden you are actually DOING SOMETHING, which tends to make those who haven’t decided to act look a bit lazy. So, in the proud tradition of humanity they will deride you, critisize you, even work to undermine your actions. Fear of change is a powerful foe for anyone who has not taken charge of their life. As you change, either those around you must change or you will evolve beyond them. Those who act and those who don’t act speak different languages. They may as well be from different planets.
